Winter program / Spring maintenance

After a truly wet but mild winter we are starting to dry out at last. Record rainfall over the past couple of months lead to water standing on areas of the course resulting in the course closure on many occasions.  Mild weather also brought its own challenges with almost the same amount of growth as in the summer. The team was kept busy keeping the surfaces cut while working on the winter program. The rough around the course has already...

Greens Surfaces

I spotted this picture on a industry media page which I thought was really interesting. The picture shows the footprints of one foursome playing the hole like normal. For me it really showed the demands we place on our greens and how important it is to keep good maintenance practice in place to keep the surfaces in optimum condition. To help the recovery of these worn areas a soil conditioner will be applied helping the grass plant to develop a strong root system and...

Fairway Maintenance

Over the autumn period we will be carrying out maintenance to some of our fairways. The main reason for this is to lower the amount of thatch in the fairways. Work begins on the 9th fairway, weather permitting this week.  We are focusing our resources on the worst fairways first such as the 9th and 1st where the thatch levels are up to 2 inch thick creating a fibrous mat over the surface. Thatch has built up to this excessive level because...
